On this Monday's episode we featured the wonderful Dr. Tess Mauricio who is the founder of M Beauty Clinic and is America's favorite dermatologist. Listen to the episode now by CLICKING HERE and then head back over for the show notes below:
♡ Who is Dr. Tess Mauricio?
As a medical student at Stanford she initially thought she would do geriatric psychiatry and it wasn't until her dermatology rotation that she noted that she can bridge the psychological gap with one's wellbeing. She felt like she was able to do something for her patients that was different from her original plan.
♡ M Beauty Clinic?
Right after residency she opened Scripps Dermatology and she wanted to practice near her home so she turned it into a family business and even the patient's feel the family dynamic they have cultivated. The clinic is meant to treat patients from the inside and out!
♡ Time Machine Procedure
Their #1 procedure is using energy based skin resurfacing with radiofrequency or laser, platelet rich plasma and adipose derived regenerative stem cells in combination with microneedling. What it does is it resets the aging of the skin. You can use this all over the body and Dr. Tess reveals that she herself does this procedure annually. Dr. Tess reports this is how she maintains her skin and how you should as well!
Additionally, they have their own version of the vampire facial where they use PRP growth factors in combination with microneedling to help with fine lines for younger patients.
♡ COVID and Skin
During this time mascne and stress has definitely taken its toll. Dr. Tess recommends using a daily cleanser, a weekly facial scrub, an anti aging serum, SPF for the daytime and a moisturizer are the things you need to have during this time. She also loves a good mask (i.e.: hydrogel masks) that can include hyaluronic acid, vitamin c and antioxidants.
Don't forget to exfoliate weekly and use a body scrub in the shower!
♡ Microneedling
It is very important to go to an expert for any cosmetic procedures. Each treatment should be customized but in general PRP and microneedling is usually okay for all skin types. Please note that if you are acne prone make sure to heal the skin before initiating this process.
On the flip side when using lasers you have to be careful if you have darker skintones.
♡ Eyes/Undereyes
In younger patients the under eye filler will be the first to show signs of aging because the skin is particularly thin in that area so the volume loss will be evident. When it comes to undereyes genetics play a role. If crows feet are particularly bothersome, you can do a little bit of botox or jeuveau. If you want to target dark circles or hollows you can opt for PRP combined with the vampire facial to rebuild the thin skin and rebuild collagen. In some cases, you can add radiofrequency or a laser which they do with the time machine procedure. This again is all dependent on your skin type.
Dr. Tess does not do under eye injectable fillers because there can be complications. Although, she admits she used to do it before in the beginning of her practice
♡ Liquid Rhino
Dr. Tess's thoughts are that a filler can be incredible due to its instantaneous effects but it is risky because there are a lot of blood vessels around there so if you inject in one of the main vessels it can lead to blindness. Additionally, the skin around your nose is very tight which may lead to compression of the blood vessels. In summary, it is still a good option for those who don't want the surgery but it is not without risks.
♡ Choosing the right place
Be careful about where you go and don't pick places just because they are cheap. You want to do your research, look at the practitioner and the people in the practice. If you want a natural look and no one there looks natural then it might not be the place for you. Remember that you should not feel pressured into doing any procedure and you don't want to waste more money reversing the damage done. Don't forget to educate people and give them their options but also don't feel forced.
