This week we have the wonderful Syed who is the founder of REV MED. REV MED is an educational platform that was created for individuals in healthcare. They currently are teaching various Anatomy related topics by using illustrations as well as color to review difficult concepts by making them simple, concise, and effective. If you want to listen to our episode now you can do so by CLICKING HERE.
♡ How did REV MED get founded?
Anatomy is a hard concept to grasp especially when you first start learning it. At some point, Syed and his classmates decided to do some teaching classes to make it easier to recall all of this information. The first day was a success so they kept on doing it and these lectures were becoming more and more popular. At one point that a girl wanted to record the lectures and she uploaded it to youtube. After this they noticed people from other places were listening to it and so they became accidentally "viral". Syed likes to call himself an accidental educator.
"I never teach my pupils; I only attempt to provide the conditions in which they can learn" - Albert Einstein
♡ What sets REV MED apart?
So they've been introducing wellness into their platform so that people can find a way to relax and not always be overwhelmed as is many times the case when anyone is studying. Syed notes that they took inspiration from Netter realizing that illustrations can help visual learners remember things. As a result they created videos, diagrams and other ways of demonstrating information. They wanted to see how people understand the concept and if they can repeat it.
♡ Who is the ideal person for REV MED?
The ideal person is any student that's currently studying anatomy or pharmacology. Basically, subject that require repetition. This would apply to people who are in school to become PA's, medical students, pharmacists, nurses and more. They also note that they have people who are in yoga practice and art who have joined REV MED to learn. Note: they will be branching out into other subjects soon but for now this is what's offered and it is tailored to board exams!
"If you can't explain it simply, you don't understand it well enough" - Albert Einstein
♡ Syed's Thoughts
Syed notes that he has done a lot of work with first aid and other USMLE courses and he doesn't believe that this will be our last pandemic in our lifetime. During the pandemic he noted that a lot of people were at home stuck in this so called "virtual" environment. He definitely leans on reverse medical education which is where you come to class already prepared. How this works is by reading and studying the lectures from home and then coming to class for clinical based questions and scenarios. He thinks that people are gonna wind back to figuring out how to teach online and create a space that's just as valuable as the classroom.
♡ COVID 19 Book
The COVID 19 book was founded when he partnered with his partners, followers and audience to help publish a book that will help the general public understand COVID. It's easy to grasp and full of high yield topics.
♡ Future for REV MED?
Since the platform is currently free they do accept donations in order to continue providing the service free of charge. They are also beta testing on various social media platforms by putting out lectures, videos and Qbanks soon. Once it launches it will be accessible for everyone and that's kind of awesome!
Right now they only do illustrations and videos but they will be scouting for educators in the near future that are well versed with their mission to provide live lectures via some sort of social space!
